How much energy do we use by importing most of our manufactured goods?

The importation of manufactured goods makes up for the majority of energy usage.  We know that 1/3 of of all energy used within the U.S. is from such industry and add 40 percent if transportation is involved.  So, what can we do?  We need to reduce through internal manufacturing first and foremost; however we can go even further by manufacturing goods near or around their consumption area in order to eliminate that transportation energy usage of 40 percent.

Buy local products and support the reduction of energy usage in this area.
