How much do we spend on trying to save endangered species?

Simply put, a lot of money is spent on endangered species. In 1988 Congress actually added a section to the Endangered Species Act that required an annual species-by-species expenditure report which not calculates how much each state and 31 federal agencies are spending on endangered species. In 2006 it was reported that an estimated $884 million was spent on more than 1,100 species on the Fish and Wildlife Service list. In 2007 a draft report stated that more than $11 million was spent on the desert tortoise alone. So, a lot of money is being invested in saving the lives of these endangered species.
