Each individual person travels a different amount, and pays for their travel accordingly. The amount you spend on transportation is represented by how much gasoline you buy for your car, how much you pay in car payments, how much you pay for toll roads and bridges, how much you spend on cab fares and tickets for plains, trains, or buses, how much you spend to purchase and maintain your bicycle, plus (in an indirect way) how much of your property tax is put towards road maintenance. Ask your local government what percentage of your taxes goes towards road maintenance, and then start doing the math.
