How much do we spend on energy every year?

About 7 percent of the GDP? I saw two figures — 6.6 percent and 7 percent of total consumer spending — on utilities and fuel. So that’d be like 980,000,000 dollars — almost a billion dollars per year!? (I tried to take 7 percent of a 14 trillion dollar GDP, anyone want to check my math; it’s getting kind of late!) I don’t know that estimate actually seems low to me… Check out the chart and that’ll give you an idea…

Actually I know for a fact that the above numbers are wrong. GDP is not equal to consumer spending alone. But I’m lost and these are good links so I’m posting them anyway!
