Koala bears, though actually marsupials rather than bears, are typically larger in both weight and size in the southern regions. Southern males weigh approximately 26 pounds (11.8 kilograms), whereas females weigh 17.4 pounds (7.9 kilograms). Northern male koalas average 14.3 pounds (6.5 kilograms), while females weigh about 11.2 pounds (5.1 kilograms). Young koalas are extremely small, weighing just about 0.5 grams at birth, which is equal to the size of a bee or jellybean.
