Poultry production is really quite a dirty process. There is a lot of pollution and harmful environmental affects from the raising and killing of poultry. The following are environmental impacts of poultry production: pollution of water, air, and land with feces, heavy metals, parasites, pathogen cysts, chemicals, diseased carcasses, and bacteria. These pollutants arise from the nearly 10 billion birds killed by the poultry industry each year. Additionally, slaughterhouses on average use 2 million gallons of water a day, according to the United Poultry Concerns Group.
