How much do coal and oil lobbyists donate to political campaigns?

    According to analysis by, the ‘Energy and Natural Resources’ sector contributed $11,359,213 to the candidates in the 2008 presidential elections. Oil & Gas sector gave $5,620,548 to the candidates.

    Using current data from 2009-2010 election cycle, Oil & Gas contributed a total of $8,162,326. For comparison, that placed it 14th out of top 20 industries, with the highest being Lawyers/Law Firms with $45,192,754. Over the entire 2007-2008 election cycle Oil & Gas gave $35,589,287, compared to $278,913,627 that came from ‘retired’ donors and $233,677,790 from Lawyers/Law Firms.
