How much corn do we need to make a gallon of ethanol?

Ethanol is argued to be an inefficient method of energy because with every gallon of ethanol made there is a significant energy deficit.  Where ethanol was supposed to save us from waste and offer new options, it has instead chained us to the farmlands that could instead be raising crops.  In order to fuel one car for an entire year on ethanol it would neuture 11 acres of farmland.  To create 2.7 gallons of this corn-rich fuel it would take a bushel of corn, 56 lbs.
