How much contamination has happened because we didn’t understand how to properly dispose of electronics?

Estimates place the amount of toxic waste in landfills from the disposal of electronic waste at 70%. In 2005, 200 million tons of e-waste was added to our landfills. Even in trace amounts, the toxic chemicals present in these disposed of electronics can cause significant health problems. For this reason, many states are now passing legislation to prohibit people from disposing of electronic waste in municipal waste streams and landfills.
