SmartWay suggests that idle trucks use about one gallon of fuel per hour in addition to the emissions during transport. Cars and trucks are major contributors to air pollution, responsible for about 20 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions annually. Every year, trucks that transport goods use up 35 billion gallons of diesel fuel and emit 350 million metric tons of CO2.
