The United States exported approximately 106,468 tons of coal and imported approximately 13,524 tons of coal in 2011, leaving a net export of about 92,944 tons.  That number, however, is not indicative of the US yearly rate of coal exportation – since 2005, imports have significantly decreased (30,460 tons in 2005 compared to 13,524 tons in 2011) while exports have increased over 200% (49,942 tons in 2005 compared to 106,468 tons in 2011).
