How much coal is mined in the United States in a year?

    The US mines 1,146 million tons of coal per year.  There are 27 states in the US that mine coal, and hundreds of billions (approx. 297 billions) of tons of coal exist in the US.  29% of the world’s recoverable coal is in the US.  Wyoming is the leading state for mining, producing 18% of the country’s coal.  are mined throughout the country on an annual basis.  Montana has the most amount of coal in reserve, at 120 million tons.
