That is a very difficult question to answer. The amount of energy required to heat a home depends on many different variables: the temperatures for that year and that region, the temperature you expect, the size of the home, the efficiency of the heating system and the level of insulation in the walls and roof.
Also, even homes in the US that do not rely on coal for heat effectively do rely on coal for electricity, given that almost half the electricity in the US is generated by burning coal.
