Coal fired power plants receive coal by trains. A “unit train” contains 100 carts with 100 tons of coal totaling 10,000 tons of coal. Power plants require at least one delivery of this size per day to keep up with energy demand. During peak demand plants can burn 3-5 unit trains per day totaling 30,000-50,000 tons.
