The United states burns about 1.05 billion tons of coal every year. Divide that by 365 and you get about 2.87 million tons of coal every day. That is certainly a staggering amount considering all of the other things it puts into our air like mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, and of course the 1.9 billion tons of CO2 that it produces every year.
