How much CO2 is produced when forests are converted into agricultural land?

Though comparitively minimal in the U.S., deforestation produces CO2 in significant amounts world wide.  Forests absorb CO2 and once these are gone, that CO2 then is not counterbalanced by new tree growth.  It is either emitted quickly through fire, or slowly through decomposition.
