How much CO2 has been released from the thawing of permafrost already?

As far as I can tell, the permafrost has not thawed considerably yet, though I’m sure it’s not far behind. Research I have done indicates that the permafrost’s thawing could release enormous amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. Amounts of up to 1,672 billion tons of carbon could be locked inside, the release of which would have a catastrophic effect on the climate.
