Flying from Los Angeles to Hawaii takes approximately 5.5 hours. A 5 hr flight equals 5150 gallons of fuel. This flight would emit about 217,363 pounds of carbon into the air. These estimates were based on the Boeing C-32 plane. More common planes would emit about 2000 pounds of carbon into the atmosphere for this length of a flight. If carbon kiosks were more common in airports, other than just the San Francisco airport, then this type of information would be more readily available to the public and fliers as well as how much money it would take to offset that amount of carbon.
