NaturalGas.org compares the three primary fossil fuels (natural gas, coal, and oil) based on pounds of emissions produced for one billion Btu of energy input. Natural gas produces 117,000 lbs of CO2 while Coal produces 208,000. Natural gas produces 40 lbs of carbon monoxide to coal’s 208 lbs. Natural gas produces 1 lb of sulfur dioxide to coal’s 2591 lbs..
