How much carbon does the rainforest absorb?

The rainforest is responsible for absorbing much of the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. A recent study shows that 40% of the CO2 thought to be absorbed by the temperate northern forest, was actually being absorbed by rainforests. It is thought that the Amazon Rainforest alone absorbs more than 2 billion tonnes of C02 each year.
