How much carbon do we absorb in the human body?

Humans are made up of about 9.5% carbon, about 11 kilograms. This is found in the cells that make up our bodies from our toenails to our hair follicles. Carbon is absorbed mainly through the ingestion of food. The flesh of plants and animals both contain carbon as well as other vital nutrients. Our body uses all of these to grow and support itself. Carbon Dioxide is commonly expelled through the body by breathing in the form of CO2 gas.
