I am not sure that drinking bottled water really wastes water, but it does cause for environmental issues with the plastic that it is housed in, and the transportation costs of the water itself. My refrigerator has a purifier installed in it, and I drink water from that. If I were to drink bottled water, I would still be drinking the same amount of water, just from a different source. If there is a statistic that shows bottled water actually wastes water, I would like to see it.
The average American drinks approximately 14 gallons of bottled water a year. Assuming a population of 250 million, this comes to a staggering 13 billion liters (13 Gl = 13 gigaliters).
