Vertical farms on the drawing board now are still highly experimental. The amount of food any one model could produce depends on its size and design. One example, shown in detail at the link below, was designed for Seattle, Washington to be completely off-grid. The “Center for Urban Agriculture” won best of show in the Cascadia region Green Building Council’s Living Building Challenge, and combines gray water recycling, greenhouses, a rooftop garden, 318 apartments, and a chicken farm–all in less than one acre.
