Both FedEx and UPS have pledged to reduce their carbon emissions 20% by 2020. UPS has started to use handheld computers to reduce their paper trail, has the largest fleet of alternative vehicles, rerouted their routes for maximize efficiency, implemented E-waste programs, started to use reusable bags, eliminated bleached packaging materials and using recyclable materials, researched water conservation, and have airplanes that use 34% less emissions. FedEx collaborated with the Environmental Defense Fund to pioneer hybrid technology. Over the past four years, Fedex’s emissions have been reduced by 17%, replaced their airlines, and upped their efficiency standards. Newsweek’s Green Ranking List had UPS as 85 and FedEx as 93.
