The average shower head manufactured before 1992 puts out about 5 gallons of water per minute. Newer low flow shower heads cut that down to 2-3 gallons per minute.
Shortening shower time by one to two minutes can save up to 150 gallons of water per month. Keeping your shower to under 5 minutes can save up to 1,000 gallons of water month.
