The average adult body has 12 pints of blood in it at any given time. Your body will start to lose function and shut down if more than 40% of your blood is lost, or roughly 4 pints. So, your body needs 8 pints or 60% of the normal capacity of blood to continue surviving.
If a person loses 25% of their blood, they will pass out.
