The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill is said to have spilt up to 600,000 tonnes of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Compare this to the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 of 106,000 tonnes, and we have an overwhelming tip of the scales to the Gulf oil spill. Nearly 6 times worse than the Exxon, which was the worst spill in US history up until today.

10.8 million US gallons of oil gushed out in the Exxon Valdez oil spill and covered around 1,300 square miles. The BP oil spill released over 18 million gallons and covered an estimated 2,700 square miles.
