How much of America’s energy comes from wind turbines?

As of 2008, wind-generated energy still only supplied 1.2 of the total power used in the US.  The wind industry is growing extremely quickly however, and that number could soon grow much larger.  A report by the US Department of Energy estimates that the US could generate 20% of its energy needs from wind power by the year 2030.  Though the growth which the wind industry has shown so far is very encouraging, continuing this growth will require a sustained commitment from federal and state governments toward supporting the wind industry and encouraging businesses to invest in wind power.
