More than 20 percent (1.6 Million Square miles) of the Amazon Rainforest has been destroyed.

There are several reserves for Amazon forest. 9,500,000 acres of pristine forest are protected in the Tumucumaque Mountains National Park in Brazil. Guyana Shield protects almost 58,000 square miles.

The portion that people are trying to save is around 33% by the end of the year.
