The International Food Policy Research Institute estimates 30 million hectares of land is on the market, but this figure is difficult to confirm.  Economist Klaus Deininger of the World Bank states that 10 to 30 percent of arable land is prone to being bought out, as a reaction to the global food crisis of 2007 to 2008.
