Well for starters, if they are mining coal, then they are mining up a substance that is going to cause pollution. Obviously a lot of oil and diesel is used for the machines in the mining process. If they are mining in the mountains they sometimes destroy the ecosystem and then blow up the mountain tops to get to the material. there is a lot of relation between the two.
Mining can cause erosion, formation of sinkholes, loss of biodiversity, and contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface water. Deforestation is also a cause because it is done to increase the available room for the storage of the created debris and soil from mining. Contamination from mines can result in negatively affecting the health of the local population. If protective measures aren’t taken, unnaturally high concentrations of some chemicals can be released to the surrounding environment.
the process of mining also emits toxins into the surrounding ecosystem to help remove the material being mined.
