Research is currently ongoing as to how cheaper, thinner solar panels can be made using pyrite rather than silicon (the most common type of solar panel on the market now). Pyrite is a good choice because it’s plentiful and absorbs more wavelengths of light than other minerals, but so far pyrite photovoltaic cells are only producing energy at about 3% efficiency.
