Some budgerigars have been known to have vocabularies of almost 2000 words. One “budgie” as these birds are sometimes referred to became famous and sold 20,00 copies record.
They are commonly heavy chewers, chewing on wood and other materials. There are over a hundred types of budgerigars in existence.
It depends on the species. In general, the smaller species of parrots do not always learn to talk and if they do, they have more to difficult to understand speech (but there are always exceptions. The larger red-tailed, African Greys, Timnas Greys, Yellow Napes, Blue Fronts and Double Yellowheads have been found to be reliable speakers.
