In 2008, Rock Port became the first city in the US to power itself completely on wind energy. A small town of about 1,300 people, Rock Port only needs four wind turbines to produce enough electricity for its entire population. In fact, the turbines actually produce more energy than Rock Port needs, allowing the town to sell excess energy back to the Missouri Joint Municipal Utilities. Rock Port is a great example of a town taking matters into its own hands, and finding an innovative way to become truly sustainable.
