How many whales has Sea Sheppard saved?

According to the Sea Shepherds “thousands” of whales have been saved since the group was formed.  Since the Shepherds act as an offensive deterrence it is difficult to accurately determine the exact number of whales saved. The group was established in 1977 under the direction of Captain Paul Watson who still heads the organization today. It was originally formed to stop illegal whaling and sealing operations. Over the years the organization has expanded and now aims to protect whales, dolphins, seals, Galapagos turtles, and sharks.
