There are around 12.5 million people in the world who run their cars on vegetable oil. Although that number is pretty big, it’s not as big as it might seem when compared to the world’s population. There are some stated advantages to the veggie car. They are cleaner burning and don’t cost as much. However, CNN comments that there isn’t enough of the old vegetable oil from restaurants needed to run the car floating around to actually make a dent in the environment.
Alas, this is like asking how many marijuana plants are grown each year in Northern California. This is as marijuana production and the use of vegetable oil to burn in cars in the U.S. (and in England for awhile, though this may change) is illegal. In the States, it is, surprisingly, the EPA which has deemed it forbidden.
