Prior to 1970 many houses were painted with lead… but then they passed the new law which outlawed lead in paint and gasoline. So not too many as of recently (if any were here at all). I’d say the range is somewhere between 2,500,000 to 100,000,000 homes or more—but I bet more than 99 percent of these houses were painted over 25 years ago, so this lead paint has probably been removed, warn off, or painted over. Disposal of paint containing lead is a key issue, because it should not be allowed to chip or be thrown away just anywhere, as it could get into water supplies and cost us money and in human health.
