How many types of marsupials are there?

    There are about 260 species of marsupials. Most of the species can be divided up into six subcategories: (1) didelphids (2) caenolestids (3) macropods (4) phalangers (5) dasyurids and (6) peramelid. Four of these marsupial groups are found exclusively in Australia.
