There are millions of individual insect species, really. For this reason, it’s not easy to compile a list of them or even classify them into slightly simpler specie families. However, insects can be classfied into the following basic types or groups: insects (including arachnids), flies, dragonflies, butterflies/moths, beetles, bugs, and ants/bees/wasps.
There are more than a million described species, with an estimated 6-9 million total alive (most are yet to be discovered). That could be as much as 90% of all species.
