Like lola14 said, there are about 20,000 known fish species in the ocean. About 160 new species have been added per year since 2000 (roughly 3 a day).
A report from 2004 puts the number at 15,482 marine fish species. However, we should account for the potentially innumerable deep-sea fish that are insanely difficult to find and positively identify. The consensus, at this point, seems to be around 15-20,000 total, as lola14 and jet posted, but it seems the number could be much higher in reality.
