There is a scientific classification that is used to categorize all animals. It goes: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. The more of these animals have in common, the closer they are related. There are 5 or 6 kingdoms, depending on where you look, animal, plant, protists, fungi, bacteria, and sometimes extremophiles are included as well. There are about 30 phyla in the animal kingdom.
There are three basic symbiotic relationships between organisms.
Parasitism is where one partner (the parasite) benefits from the relationship and the other partner (the host) is damaged.
Commensalism is where one partner (the commensal) benefits, and the other partner (the host) is indifferent.
And mutualism is where both of the partners (mutualists) benefit from the relationship.
