It is estimated that 100 trees are cut down every minute in the rain forest. To put this into perspective: in order to produce the Sunday paper 500,000 trees need to be cut down. A single run of the New York Times on Sunday uses 75,000 trees. Also, seven trees are used by the average American per year, which totals up to about 2,000,000,000 trees a year for all Americans.
