How many tons of carbon emissions does it take to raise the temperature of the earth by one degree?

    According to a Scientific American article from 1959, the CO2 increase between the 1850’s and the 1950’s was 360 billion tons, which amounted to a 13% increase in the atmospheric concentration of CO2 and corresponded to a 1 degree increase in the average global temperature over the same time period.
