To give you a rough idea, in 2005, 920 million tires were used on non-commercial vehicles in the US. Every year approximately 290 million tires are disposed of. Today, over 75 percent of all scrap tires are recycled, used for fuel or used for other applications. For more information about how old tires can be used, see the following link, http://earth911.com/recycling/automotive/tires/what-happens-next-to-tires/. It has more details from the Rubber Manufacturers’ Association.
