It is estimated that wood based paper can be recycled successfully between 5 and 7 times before the individual fibers become to small and brittle to be used again. Around 80% of the bulk of paper put up for recycling is salvaged, while 20% is either unrecoverable or unrecycleable in the first place. Things like chemical treatments and ink also contribute to the 20% that can’t be recycled.
