    There can be millions of termites in one mound.  But their mounds aren’t just piles of dirt; they are constructed with sophisticated ventilation systems that maintain the temperature and moisture content.

    Termites live in colonies that can number from several hundred to several million individuals. Colonies use a decentralized, self organized system of activity guided by a swarm intelligence. Certain termites have certain roles and a typical colony will have nymphs, workers, soldiers, and a queen.
