The amount of Pacific swordfish landed in 2007 was about 10,000 metric tons. Currently, fishing practices for swordfish are considered sustainable, however one of the primary concerns among conservationists is that current swordfishing practices do not discriminate between juvenile and mature swordfish. This could ultimately lead to a decline in the number of fish capable of reproducing, which would of course negatively affect the overall population.
