Straw built homes have been around for more than ten years, and their popularity hits a fever pitch in the Southwestern U.S. Though they are more expensive to build than a normal house, they are a sustainable alternative offering better insulation and, against public thought, are actually safer from house fires than your current house.
While an actual number of straw built homes is hard to find, it is yet to catch on in popularity and consistency, despite being a great environmental alternative (like most things). Because of their ability to absorb earthquake shocks, looks for more straw built homes to spring up in communities near fault lines.
