The species of whale a person can see, depends on the part of California. Gray whales can be seen up and down the coast, but other whales that are off California coast lines are Blue, Humpback, Fin, Sperm, and Minke whales.
It’s very hard to spot all of these species without spending a lot of time whale watching, but there are eight species of whale off the coast of California. They are as follows: Gray whale, Orca, Blue whale, Humpback whale, Minke whale, Fin whale, Baird’s Beak whale and the Short-finned Pilot whale. All eight of these species can be spotted off the coast of Northern California.
