How many species of swallows are there?

    The swallow, or Hirundinidae, is a comman name for small, perching birds. They can be found all over the world except for Antarctica. There are approximately 100 known species of swallows and martins. Martins are also included in the same family as the swallow.

    Swallows are generally characterized by their long, narrow wings and forked tails and their ability for aerial feeding.
